Novaport: Emera Island Period #9

The Truth

As the days passed by, the survivors of the great tsunami were left picking up the pieces that were left of their lives. Amazingly, Amber had recovered from hypothermia and was back to her usual self. However, Mikai had not returned since the morning after the disaster. Hence, Amber wanted to find him.

Conscience

Mikai had been hiding out at Pouli Kupua's residence. He had went over there after finding out what pain his spell had brought to the island; he was angry.

Mikai: You...you bitch! You've killed people!

Pouli: You wanted this to happen.

Mikai: I- I didn't want to kill the entire island, though!

Pouli: The strength of the tsunami was determined by you.

Mikai: Couldn't you control it, though!? Make it weaker?

Pouli: I explained to you how the spell worked. You were fine with it.

Mikai: But I didn't...I didn't know...it would do THIS.

Pouli: You didn't know...that a giant tsunami, would hurt people?

Mikai: I'm going to kill you.

Pouli: Another person to add to your body count?

Mikai: Fuck. You.

Mikai launched his body at the woman, but before he could make contact with her, he was teleported to the front door. Pouli came down stairs with a sly grin on her face.

Pouli: You can't hurt me, Mikai.

He tried to lunge at her again, but ended up outside. Pouli opened her front door.

Pouli: Now, are you going to tell your fellow islanders the truth?

Mikai: I...I can't...

Pouli: That's understandable. They'll probably kill you.

Mikai was unsure of how to make things right, or if he even could.

Pouli: But do you not think that they deserve to know?

Mikai: No! No, if they find out...Amber will hate me...Hana would never love me again...

Pouli: If you can't tell them, then how can you face them?

Mikai: I...

Unfortunately, Mikai wasn't the smartest man alive. He had no answers for his actions. He had no knowledge of how to deal with the situation. He had nothing.

Pouli left Mikai in her garden to simmer, while she went back inside to read. Eventually, he knocked on her door, again.

Pouli: Are you done?

Mikai: Is there a way...to reverse it?

Pouli cackles.

Mikai: What...you're a witch, aren't you? Surely you have a spell or whatever to bring people back alive?

Pouli: I do but...they won't be fully alive.

Mikai: What?

Pouli: They'd just be moving corpses, really. Not fully-functioning Sims.

Well, that was the only thing Mikai could think of that could fix this, but the answer was not what he was hoping for. He had no idea what to do.

Mikai: What...what do I do...

Pouli: You can either tell them the truth, run away, or go back and act like you had not part in it.

Mikai: I don't know if...if I can.

Pouli: Think on it.

Pouli turns to go back inside.

Mikai: Wait! I need somewhere to stay...until I make my...decision.

Pouli: ...and?

Mikai: Can I...stay here...until...

Pouli rolled her eyes, but she felt sorry for the man.

Pouli: Fine, you can camp out in my garden. But don't try any funny business, otherwise I will tell everyone the truth.

So, Mikai set up a place to sleep in the lush greenery enclosed in Pouli's land. He spent his next few days agonising over his actions; hoping that his sister would recover, and longing to be in Hana's arms once more.

One night, he got particularly lonely, and bothered Pouli once again. He begged her to let him inside.

Pouli: What is it?

Mikai: I...how do you do this...stay inside, with no one to talk to?

Pouli: I find comfort in my own company.

Mikai: But do you never...get lonely?

Mikai was aching. He wished to feel the presence of another Sim; to touch and to hold them; to have conversation.

Pouli: Not really, especially when I see the calamity of the relationships on this island.

Mikai: So you don't care about...love? Or anything like...that?

Pouli did not care about romance, but she thought the man could do with some uplifting, and it had been a while since she last slept with another. She leaned in to kiss Mikai, who was easily roped in to her enchantment. Eventually, he was led to her bedroom.

After the act, Mikai wanted to stay in Pouli's bed to talk, but she was not interested. She got up and swiftly put back on her clothes.

Pouli: Time to go back to your tent.

Mikai: What? But we just...

Pouli: Yes, but I don't want to share my bed with you. I'm already sharing my garden with you.

Mikai: But...that was my first...time...

Pouli: I could tell. Now, off you go.

Pouli clicked her fingers, and Mikai's naked body landed outside. He felt used, but it was still a better feeling than the guilt he had.

Confession

Now that Amber was feeling better, she made it her priority to find Mikai. There weren't many places where he could be hiding due to the destruction that occurred several nights prior. Other members of the group offered to assist Amber, but she refused.

Since Pouli's residence was the only other home still standing, Amber visited it first. She found her brother asleep in the front garden. She kicked him awake, and he was surprised to see her.

Amber: Mikai, what the heck?

Mikai: Amber...

Amber: What are you doing...here?

Mikai: I thought...I thought you wouldn't make it.

Amber: I'm not weak, you know. A bit of water is not enough to take me out.

Mikai: I'm glad that you're okay.

Amber: Whatever...why are you here? Come home.

Mikai: I...I can't.

Amber: Why not?

Mikai: I can't face them after everything...

Amber: I know it's hard to deal with, but you can't be sleeping out here!

Mikai: You don't understand.

Pouli: What's all this commotion?

Pouli had overheard Amber's raised voice, which distracted her from her studying. As soon as he saw Pouli, Mikai looked down at the ground, avoiding eye contact.

Amber: Um...I'm here for my brother. I don't know if you're aware but he's been sleeping out here.

Pouli: Yes, I know. I allowed him to stay.

Amber was wary of Pouli, for there had been rumours that she practised evil magic of some sort. She had been shunned from society due to her reclusive nature, so perhaps this was just hearsay, Amber thought.

Amber: ...why?

Pouli: Oh, that's not for me to tell.

Amber: Don't get cryptic with me. Why did you let him stay?

Pouli: Mikai?

Mikai did not answer.

Amber: This is silly...just come home, brother.

Mikai: I can't.

Amber: Why?

Mikai looks at Pouli, her eyes judging him.

Mikai: What happened...it's all...my fault...

Amber: What?

Mikai: I...I didn't mean to.

Amber: What do you mean, it's your fault?

She glares at Pouli, searching for an answer.

Pouli: Let's just say that, this tsunami...Mikai wished for it.

Mikai: No, no I didn't want it to take out the entire island!

Pouli: Still in denial, are we?

Mikai: It was YOU who did it.

Amber: What...what are you saying...

Pouli: Your idiot brother here came to me, asking for me to curse some people he disliked. He gave the orders, I just did the hard work.

Amber: What...

Mikai: I'm sorry, Amber...I didn't know it would do...this.

Amber: You...

It appeared that the rumours about Pouli were true. Amber fought with her words, but could not win. Her lungs felt as if they were being crushed, and her stomach was heavy. Instead, Amber expressed her feelings with her hands, by pushing Mikai. However, he was too big for her to knock onto the ground.

Mikai: Amber, please-

Amber turned to exit the property.

Amber: I...I have no words, except...you're a disgrace.

And with that, Amber left.

Pouli: I suppose you have no reason to stay here, anymore.

Mikai: ...what?

Pouli: I was only letting you stay until you made up your mind, but now that choice has been taken from you.

Mikai: Where will I go?

Pouli: You're a strong man...you can survive anything.

Mikai stood there, dumbfounded.

Conflict

Amber solemnly made her way back to the temple, her body feeling weaker than when she was out in the storm. Her breathing was fast yet deep; her thoughts and heart beat moving just as quickly. When she arrived home, the group immediately noticed her downbeat mood. Hana was the first to approach Amber, with Hinto and Enola soon following.

Hana: Did something happen, to Mikai?

His name filled Amber with rage. She let out a loud cry of frustration, punching the wall with her right fist. This startled Odin and Urika, who were sat in the back. Enola rushed to Amber's side, checking her knuckles which started to become flushed and enlarged.

Hana: Don't tell me he's-

Amber: No, he's not fucking dead, but I wish he was!

Enola pulled Amber in for a comforting hug, consoling her with quiet affirmations.

Hinto: What did he...do?

Amber pushed Enola's body away from her.

Amber: He...he went to that witch in the hills...asked her to...bring that tsunami...he-

Hinto: That can't be possible...

Amber: She confirmed it!

While Enola and Hana were in disbelief, Hinto tried to reason with the news.

Hinto: But that was just a rumour...that she was a witch. It's not possible...

Amber: Why would they lie!? Why would Mikai go off, and hide somewhere, if he wasn't responsible!?

Urika: You mean...he caused this...? He...killed our families?

Urika had joined the conversation after observing Amber's anguish. The woman looked at her with wet eyes that emitted a deep sorrow.

Amber: Yes...

Enola: Why...?

Amber switched her focus onto the shocked Hana.

Amber: Because of her.

Hinto: What did Hana do?

Hana: I...

Amber: She HAD to go behind Mikai's back and kiss that scumbag, Toni Wai.

Enola: You can't...you can't possibly blame Hana, for this!?

Hana: I...didn't-

Amber: It was the trigger that set my brother on a war path.

Hinto: I'm sorry but Hana is not responsible for your brother's actions. He made the choice to do this, not her.

Enola: Yes...and Hana lost her family...our family, too...

Hana: You saw me, Amber. Trying to reason with your brother...he wouldn't listen...

Enola: Mikai was awful, anyway...
